Family Trip To Shegaon And Lonar

March 25, 2020 by Vishal Leave a Comment

Shegaon has the samadhi of “Shri Sant Gajanan Maharaj” and a temple is situated right there in the centre of the city. Gajanan Maharaj was well known saint in Maharashtra. The shegaon is also known as pandharpur of Vidarbha. There is Bhakt Niwas where one can register and stay for a couple of days. Now a days, there is also facility to stay near Anand Sagar which is another tourist attraction. The bhakt niwas stay is very reasonable also the facility here is awesome, if we compare with the pricing. Very neat and clean rooms, toilets even the common places are very tidy. Free buses run by trust are available from Shegaon station to Mandir/Bhakt Niwas as well as Bhakt Niwas to Anand Sagar. Anand Sagar area is developed by Shri Gajanan Maharaj Mandir Trust on about 350 acres of land. it is a spiritual and entertainment centre for pilgrims, build around a Dhyan Mandir. There is an Amphitheatre which seats 3,500 people, used to organize cultural activities, functions and exhibitions. Including colourful fountain musical fountain show internal train for children internal lake with air bridge to cross the lake, huge meditation centre excellent management of vehicle parking.

It’s very unfortunate that Anand Sagar is closed now a days due to some contract issue between government and trust.

We were planning since very long to visit this holy place. Finally the trip was planned for Shegaon on December 30, 2020. We had hired a traveller for this trip, because no trains are available as its year end and christmas holiday week. It is around 450 KM from pune and take around 11-12 hours travel by road. But as there was road construction going on  it took us more time than expected. We started our journey around 5.30 PM and reached there around 8 to 8.30 AM. It was very cold out there. You need to flow the queue to book rooms. There are local people we provide you hot water and area for bath, useful for the people not going to stay there. They can get fresh and visit the temple. It took around 2 hrs for us to get the rooms. While allotting room they took id proof of at least 60% of people if more than 4 people are there. If less than 4 people are ids of all are compulsory.

We moved to our rooms and got fresh had breakfast. The bhakt niwas has very good arrangement for breakfast, lunch and dinner at a reasonable cost. In 35 rupees you get unlimited lunch and dinner. After that we rest for some time and visit the Gajanan Maharaj temple for darshan. The darshan queue is very systematic and planned according to huge crowd. It took us around 1 hour for the darshan. Feel very pleased and relaxed after the darshan. In the evening we had some local market sightseeing and shopping. Kids enjoyed the trip in horse cart (Ghoda Gadi). After dinner we had planned for the next day as anand sagar  was closed. We decided 2 places to visit Shri Kshetra Nagzari and Lonar lake.

The next morning we visited anand sagar first. There is only on Shiv and Ganpati Mandir which is open. After taking blessing from lord ganesh we moved towards  Nagzari. Shri Kshetra Nagzari is situated on the bank of Man River there are a number of springs flowing in the near proximity. It is around 8-9 KM away from shegaon. There are temples of Shri Nageshwar and math of Shri Gomaji Maharaj. Shri Gomaji Maharaj was devotee of Lord Krishna.
After that we moved towards Lonar lake or Lonar crater which around 120 – 130 KM away from shegaon. Is a notified National Geo-heritage Monument. Lonar Lake was created by an asteroid collision with earth impact during the Pleistocene Epoch. It is one of the four known, hyper-velocities, impact crater in basaltic rock anywhere on Earth. The other three basaltic impact structures are in southern Brazil. Lonar Lake has a mean diameter of 1.2 kilometres (3,900 ft) and is about 137 metres (449 ft) below the crater rim. The meteor crater rim is about 1.8 kilometres (5,900 ft) in diameter. The crater was formed fifty-two thousand years ago, when a meteor crashed into the earth at an estimated speed of 90,000kmph, weighing 2 million tonnes. The water of the lake is both saline and alkaline in nature, which makes it one-of-its-kind not only in India, but also in the world. he most prominent reptiles found in the Lonar Crater Lake are the monitor lizards.
We reached here after approx 4.30 hrs journey. It was a dream come true for me I was having desire for a long time to visit this nature’s beautiful creation. And indeed it was a great experience to view the lake. There are two water streams named Purna and Penganga whose water flows directly into the lake. Small ponds are created there using the flow of this stream. People have faith that the water is very useful in curing the skin diseases. The path down to the lake is slippery, the quicksand on the banks making this a truly treacherous trek. The entire path flows through forest region along the lake in between you will find centuries-old, abandoned temples that are now inhabited only by insects and bats. Due to time limitations we were not able to complete the entire path of the forest. After an awesome experience and beautiful sightseeing we started our journey back to Pune.
